An effective World Wide Web image search engine
نویسندگان
چکیده
Effective World Wide Web image retrieval systems are required to locate relevant images as more and more images are used in HTML documents. There are two general approaches to image retrieval: one is based on text descriptions and the other on image contents (low-level features, such as colour and texture). They have their respective strengths and weaknesses. In this paper, we describe how to improve text-based and content-based image retrieval techniques and to integrate these two types of techniques in one system to take advantage of their complementing strengths. Our experimental results show that the integrated approach has higher retrieval performance than either the text-based or the content-based techniques used by themselves.

WebSeer: An Image Search Engine for the World Wide Web
Because of the size of the World Wide Web and its inherent lack of structure, finding what one is looking for can be a challenge. In fact, some of the most highly visited Web sites are search engines. However, while Web pages typically contain both text and images, most currently available search engines only index text. This paper describes WebSeer, a system for locating images on the Web. Web...
متن کاملAn Anatomy of a Large-scale Image Search Engine
As the World-Wide Web moves rapidly from text-based towards multimedia content, and requires more personalized access, we deem existing infrastructures inadequate. In this paper, we present critical components for enabling effective searches in Web-based or large-scale image libraries. In particular, we propose a perception-based search component, which can learn users’ subjective query concept...

Because of the size of the World Wide Web and its inherent lack of structure, finding what one is looking for can be a challenge. PC-Meter’s March, 1996, survey found that three of the five most visited Web sites were search engines. However, while Web pages typically contain both text and images, all the currently available search engines only index text. This paper describes WebSeer, a system...

This short report outlines the indexing techniques and the user interface of a prototype image search engine called Behold. It complements traditional image metadata with automatically generated image annotations and an image similarity network to make images more accessible. The user supplies the initial query in the form of one or more keywords and is then able to locate the desired images mo...
متن کاملA World Wide Web Based Image Search Engine Using Text and Image Content Features
Using both text and image content features, a hybrid image retrieval system for Word Wide Web is developed in this paper. We first use a text-based image metasearch engine to retrieve images from the World Wide Web based on the text information on the image host pages to provide an initial image set. Because of the high-speed and low cost nature of the text-based approach, we can easily retriev...
